Widecombe Valley Campsite temporarily closed for 2024 season

Hi everyone, we have had some bad news regarding the 2024 season. We are not able to open the site due to a new planning law that has been brought in about temporary summer campsites.

Due to our site being near a river it is in a flood zone 3 area which means we had to obtain planning permission. We applied and the application got refused by the local council. (Teignbridge). Even though there has been no recorded flooding there for decades since the river was straightened and dredged and we have been operating the campsite for the last three years with no issues... they have taken away our ability to operate with no real consultation or evidence based decision making.

I am really sorry for those of you who were planning on visiting us this summer. I have emailed out to all the bookings we had taken to inform them of this development.

I can recommend two other sites in the village... one just around the corner at the Rugglestone Inn. They have a great little site behind the pub with a wild camping feel. The other is Cockingford Farm campsite up the valley which is a short drive from the centre of the village.

Again, I am really sorry for the bad news but it's completely out of my hands at the moment.

The sun may have set on this site but keep an eye out for future exciting developments. We will be keeping the facebook and instagram pages open with updates.

Regards, Dan
